“Kween Yakini speaks from the heart with writing that aims for yours. Her explorations into the roots of music begins at the cradle of life, Her expressions on Africa are illuminating as they educate, recover, and uncover the truths of the past that she has begun to mine. I eagerly await her next poetic adventure.”
Hillary Plate, Cultural Programming & Grants Coordinator
All Hail the Kween! Author/ Poet Kween Yakini has done it again with her thought-provoking, engaging, historical and informative documentation of the rich musical heritage that came from the African Diaspora. Kween Yakini traces Black music to the roots as she takes the reader on a journey back in time starting with the history of the banjo and more. Yakini showcases an array of musical genres with poetic prose, just as delivers in her spoken word performances. “Tracing Black Music To The Roots” beautifully illustrates the influence that our ancestors had on music worldwide.
