BIOGRAPHY
Sharran C. Taylor T/A Kween Yakini was born in Harlem, New York and spent her young adult life growing up in Brooklyn, New York. Sharran is an Alumni of Medgar Evers City University, and she graduated Cum Laude with an A.A.S. in the class of August 1996. She is also an alumni of Tidewater Community College and she graduated with an A.A.S. in the class of December 2007. Sharran is a published Author and the recipient of a Black Book Achievement Award in 2019, 2021 and 2023 from the Nat Turner Library. As an Author, Sharran has published five poetry books which includes: Woke: A Poetic Journey, Ode To The Punani: Sensual Rising, The Dream And The Lie, Tracing Black Music To The Roots and Telling Our Blues With Black American Poetry. Sharran has received some highly regarded testimonies about her performances and for more than 10 years she has been known as a “Edutainer” poet because her poetry teaches as well as entertains audiences. One of her most memorable performances was at the Hampton Coliseum as part of the First African Landing Commemoration of 2019 Concert where she performed as an opening Poet for the “Sounds of Blackness” and Emcee Rapper “Common”. Sharran is the current Host of “Poetry, Prose and Pizza” an open mic, which is held quarterly at the Chesapeake Russell Memorial Library. At present, the Author is working on her sixth book, the date and tittle are to be announced at a future time, however: when her time is not occupied with writing she works on making her handmade jewelry for her vending table.
