TELLING OUR BLUES WITH BLACK AMERICAN POETRY
RELEASED ON AMAZON DECEMBER 2024
Black folks come from a long line of storytellers, and each generation has sought out the stories that shine the light on where we came from and who we really are. Storytelling is our way of saying “I am here, and my story matters”. We’ve learned the importance of sharing our voices and our experiences no matter if they be good or bad. Some of our deepest emotions and memories lay in between the spaces of the pages that we write on. Through the African Diaspora we have learned how to record our history by telling the stories that needed to be told by our Ancestors. Storytelling is how families were able to stay connected and it has reminded us of our roots. However, Black stories are often seasoned with pain, grit, relationship issues and personal battles that we sometime call the Blues. If you listen close to our stories, you just might hear the spirit of “Fannie Lou Hamer” and “Ida B. Wells” speaking.

Book Review By: Angela Khalifa Author and Librarian The Nat Turner Library
I can say I am super pleased with this purchase and addition to my collection on the history of music. The combination of historical facts and poetic expression under each topic is another way of bringing music to the forefront. The pairing is perfect! The author recaps key points in the history timeline by adding the accents from this book. It is a wonderful supplement for facts already known, but wonderful as a reminder. I can also state there were new items I was not aware of, but makes total sense.

Let me say that we had a ball listening to her and just witnessing her confidence that shined like the sun. My daughter and I are very close and she needed to hear how a man is suppose to adore you and treat you mentally and sexually. Ms. Queen we love you and where ever you are, we are there. WOKE: A POETIC JOURNEY RELEASED ON AMAZON JUNE 2018

Woke is my first poetry publication and it was written as a testimony about my journey to becoming “Woke”. I define “Woke” as knowing thyself, which means having a greater understanding of who you are and what you represent in this world. Being Woke also means that you’ve come to realize that most of what you’ve been taught by the school systems, the news media and even religious leaders were untrue. Thus, this book speaks boldly about looking beyond the veils of my existence, and becoming obsessed with learning about the hidden past and untold stories of my people. Published in 2018, Received The Maya Angelou award from the Nat Turner Library in 2019
